Not everyone wants to surf waves on their stand up paddle boards (SUP). Nor does everyone have room to store a 14 foot (14’) rigid touring paddle board. Enter the Tower Xplorer inflatable SUP – a fast, stable and rigid inflatable paddle board that anyone can use.

Dimensions

The Tower Xplorer Inflatable paddle board is 14 foot (14’) long, thirty two inches (32”) wide, and eight inches (8”) thick. This is more than adequate for a touring inflatable paddle board. The board is very stable, sits high in the water, and paddles very easily.

It has a weight capacity of up to 800 lbs (362kgs), and the inflatable paddle board itself weighs 36lbs (16kgs).

The board inflates up to 10-11 PSI.

The Tower Xplorer Inflatable paddle board has a nose rocker of 4 inches, and no tail rocker. This means it is designed to cut through flat water at great speed. It comes with a standard longboard fin box.

Features

A touring stand up paddle board is usually longer and thicker than a regular paddle board, as they tend to be used to go over long distances. These can also be used for racing, as they are generally a lot faster than a regular paddle board, due to their nose design being styled more to “cut” through the waves.

The Tower Xplorer inflatable SUP is no different. Even though it is an inflatable paddle board, it still retains the features a rigid paddle board has, yet is easier to transport and store.

The Tower Xplorer inflatable SUP handles great up and down the coast line, but is not really recommended for catching waves – due to the design of the board, the inflatable paddle board nose can “catch” in waves larger than 1-2 feet, although it cuts through chop easily. This paddle board is designed as a fast flat-water touring stand up paddle board.

Using the supplied pump, you can inflate the paddle board in 8-10 minutes, and due to the weight of the inflated paddle board, is very easy to deflate at the end of your surf session.

The Tower Xplorer Inflatable paddle board comes with a two year warranty (this does not apply to included accessories).

This Inflatable SUP is also a great choice for SUP yoga.

The Tower Xplorer Inflatable paddle board is made of military-grade material, and Tower claims it is nearly indestructible. The materials used are extremely rugged like those found on Zodiac inflatable boats and extreme river rafts.

Accessories

The Tower Xplorer 14’ Inflatable paddle board comes with a 3-PC Aluminum Paddle. It also includes a high-pressure SUP pump, and Tower branded diamond grooved deck pad (ideal for keeping a good foot grip on the board).

The Aluminum paddle does not float, unfortunately. It can also seem a little heavy, compared to carbon fiber paddles that a lot of people upgrade to. In saying this, it is perfectly fine to get you started, and you can always upgrade later on if you decide. Take care to wash your paddle in fresh water, if you paddle in salt water, due to corrosion.

A removable center fin is also included, along with a hand hold strap, a roll-up carrying strap, a towing ring on the nose, and a leash attachment ring on the tail.

Performance

The Tower Xplorer 14’ Inflatable paddle board is designed as a flat-surfaced fast SUP. It will get you across the lake in no time at all! You could easily race this, as it is almost as rigid as a fibreglass/Epoxy (EPS) paddle board when inflated to its recommended PSI.

This inflatable paddle board is not really designed for wave catching. You could certainly try on smaller waves (1-2 feet), but you might find the nose catches easily in the waves, or the board slides down the wave.

Pros

The inflatable paddle board stores away to not much more than one foot (1′) in diameter. It measures thirty seven inches (37”) wide. That means it can sit in the corner of the garage until you want to use it, and there is no need for roof racks!

Cons

The pressure gauge on the pump does not register immediately. This seems to be a common issue with the provided pumps from Tower, and if using your own pump, be sure to not over inflate.

As mentioned above, the paddle does not float. Make sure to rinse off after using in salt water to prevent corrosion.

Paddle is a bit heavy.
